The picture is a very disturbing glance at a side you have obviously hidden very well for years. While i don't think that this particular site was the appropriate place for you to expose your forbidden pleasure (something like www.imabitofapuff.com may have been a wiser choice) the fact is that you have and it does raise a number of questions, such as;

where did you get that mask?
is THAT how you roll in Toronto?
when did you learn to read?

I don't really do sincerity all that well but in this case I'm going to try and break the habit of a lifetime because this is a really big deal.

Ruaridh has a habit of making everything he does look easy. He is an imensly talented guy with a very bright future in front of him who also happens to be one of the funniest people i've ever met. Although i don't see him nearly as much as I would like to these days he remains one of my favourite people. As with his driving he is useless on a bike unless he is heavily intoxicated so he has picked up a blender and come up with a rather unorthodox eye-opener for consumption on his way to work: 10 pressed oranges, chickpeas, lentils, seaweed, 2 bottles of Buckfast, a gram of MDMA and a pair of shredded tweed pants. Apparently it's a similar brew to the one Floyd Landis was sucking on last year as he ascended the French Alps at an average speed of 72kmph. Breakfast of champions -and cheating kvnts.

Actually i didn't speak to anyone i didn't already know all weekend. So much for the festivals "ethos of inclusion and accessibility". Familiar faces, long lost friends and plenty of booze. Good fun but Dun Laoghaire is still missing it's edge since Kelven Reid decided to (quoting my Dad on some largely unrelated subject) 'play to the gallery of the gods' on the far side of the Atlantic.

The more i think about it the more i am convinced that Kelven is in fact the illegitimate love child of Patrick Swayze and a Lemur --which coincidentally are an endangered species.

I'm quite happy to admit when I'm wrong. Myself and John spun into the Phoenix Park yesterday where we were greeted by a very nice Australian girl on a fixie who asked us if we were there to race, when we replied 'no' she just smiled and said 'ah, so your here to get fucked up -welcome'.

Lots of nice people (I guess about about 300) and lots of cool bikes. Some were racing, some were buying and selling but most were sitting around on the grass shooting the shit and getting wasted. Good clean fun.

Unfortunately it's pissing rain today so we've given it a miss. But tomorrow is another day. Photos to come...

Drinking approximately 60 beers and chasing Lizanne Proctor around Lepoardstown racecourse to the tune of 'that song from dirty dancing' until 4 o'clock in morning certainly hasn't helped.

Last night was a good night for the bookies.

David Morgan (b.eng) ran the handicap hurdle at 2.15am. 1st by a head. Mark Rudden bet against him and lost a fortune. Astrid was odds on favorite to lose her dress in the 3.30am champion chase but punters were again disappointed as she managed to maintain some level of composure and keep her kit on for once.

Less is more. I like the abridged version of this poem better -although that probably says more about me than it does about Keats.

Still on the subject of bikes, Ben's Peugeot is coming along nicely. I love the pearlescent finish, it really jumps out at you. I wouldn't try to descend any hills on it just yet though as there is quite a bit of slack on that chain. The Cycle Messenger World Championships begin this Friday the 3rd of August and run until Tuesday the 7th.

My main problem with the event is that the whole 'über hip bicycle messenger click' is completely contrived. The whole thing will most likely amount to watching a bunch of drugged up egomaniacs on style-parade.* Having said that, there will be a couple of nice bikes knocking around so If the sun decides to grace us with it's presence on Saturday a trip to the Phoenix park to take in the preliminary races might be in order.

The king of Dalkey festival kicks off tomorrow but Dalkey has has changed a lot since McDonaghs closed and i still find it hard to imagine having fun anywhere else.

The pub itself was a mess. The paint was chipped, the wallpaper was peeling and seats were torn but people were happy there and were happy to go there. There was no pretense or ego attatched to any part of the place.

Meanwhile the hoard of new pubs, resturants and art gallerys all seem to be feeling the pinch and have never attained the exclusive status they assumed a premesis in the village would grant them.

'More Tiny Giants' begin recording of their double EP today. The much anticipated analog outing is their first and a completion date has been penciled in for the end of July with a launch show to follow soon after.

Unusually for an Irish band -and even more unusual for a Dublin band, 'More Tiny Giants' have managed to avoid most of the now broadly accepted stereotypes; they stand up straight, they are not cool and they think 'Noise Control' are shit. A band to brake the mould? Maybe, but perhaps the most important distinction between MTG and the rest is that in a small town music scene preoccupied with an egocentric image of rock and the cult of personality, their music actually holds some weight.

If they do manage to stay sober -and friends, long enough to get it finished we should be in for a real treat.

Country folk don't understand dance music.

Ten o'clock and ten pints in, the locals started to become agitated and unpredictable -an atmosphere that was only compounded by Lisa's psych-trance set in the back bar. Eventually Ro had to intervene and hoist his girlfriend, her record collection, a set of decks, a PA system, 11 onlookers and 4 pint bottles of Bulmers to safety -it can be handy hanging out with a human crane.

Good clean fun, never mind the weather and don't even get me started on the middle aged lesbians. Photos to come -35mm requires a little more patience.

HM Prison: Maze, Long Kesh.

It's not every day you find yourself wandering the halls of one of the most infamous prisons in the world.

I wasn't watching the news in the 80's and 90's and I won't pretend to have any real knowledge of the history or any real understanding of the divisions that exist in northern society but there are certain things everyone in Ireland knows about the Maze which make it a grimly fascinating place to visit.

Although it began it's operational life as a symptom of the turmoil north of the border it quickly became an intrinsic part of 'the troubles'. The prison -although only closed 7 years ago, is a relic of a very brutal period in modern Irish history and it's impending demolition is a fitting symbol of the movement toward peace and reconciliation, in whatever form that may come.

This is getting ridiculous. It's the 22nd of June and this is the most promising weather report I've seen in weeks. This is becoming a very serious problem, people are freaking out. I just spoke to Paul Finan who -having narrowly avoided death (or at the very least a good soaking), is sitting in his Toyota Starlet on the hard shoulder of the M1 weeping like a violated schoolgirl.

Out celebrating with David Morgan (B.Eng.) at DEVO last night. It almost felt like summer. Bought the t-shirt too -Dave got a small ladies DEVO belly top to go under his leather jacket, which he has stitched tweed elbow patches to. He's a fucking renegade.

Also visited Lynnes exhibition in Temple Bar on Friday. Her photographs are beautiful and for my money were some of the best work there.

Blooms day was a bit of wash out but i'm about ready to give up on the city center altogether so it was nice to hang out in sandycove for once.

Ben dressed up, i dressed down and everybody else got pissed. There are even reports of Ann Donohoe riding 'fat Arthur' bare back around the square-about in Dalkey screaming "next stop courtown".

It all seems to be getting out of hand over there.

Keith has developed a 'horse fetish' and has become quite taken with idea of a nose bag (originally one of Kelvin Reids brainwaves). He has one for every occasion -eating, drinking and puking and thinks they compliment his man hooves and saddle quite nicely.

Eoin is wearing high heels to work and spending a lot of time with transvestites. As if that wasn't worrying enough, for some reason he has also started strategically dropping the term "transitional phase" into every third sentence.

Robin got a job as manequin and has been living in the window of a department store in Toronto. It's going on 6 weeks since she's had any food or water, never mind bought a new box of tampax.

Kelven is drilling for oil... with his bare hands, by all accounts he's doing quite well.

Maybe I was wrong about tea parties. Lynne pulled a very exotic herbal blend out of the fridge on Friday. Apart from being odorless and completely transparent it also seemed to have a severely debilitating effect on her motor reflexes.

In other weekend news a section of the 'sandy cycles' club were seen fraternising with political dynamo Trevor Sargent. The initial approach and photo call went well but apparently the conversation took a bit of a nose dive when Trevor began lecturing the boys and girls on the virtues of shitting outdoors. While John agreed in principal even he thought that Sandymount green on election day was not really the time or place for a public demonstration.

I have started to develop some pretty serious side effects from the plastic Kashimax saddle I've been sitting on for the last few months. Recently I've been looking for a replacement and a "Selle Italia Turbo" is top of the list but they are very hard to come by and are usually snapped up quite quickly when they do show up online.

I came across this particular model on eBay today and realised just how far this obsession has gone -I want it, I need it and I'm going to pay well over the odds to get it.

This is usually a pretty hectic time of year as Eoin generally likes to celebrate his birthday 6 or 7 different times at varying locations around the city. He has to cover all the bases, one night out is never enough and there has to be a certain amount of redundancy built into the system. Before you even get started there's the launch and party and wrap party to consider and then you've got to fit in 5 days of binge drinking and smoking sneaky spliffs outside every hip bar and nightclub in town. Unfortunately the Canadian exodus will limit my involvement this year but hopefully Robin, Keith and the hoard of ketamine freaks can pick up the slack.

You don't get a card or a present because I'm not organised enough but here's a poem, treasure it -dickhead...

On nights such as the ones outlined above, Ben "i'm different" Mullen likes to try and slip off early -which is totally cool, he has every right to do whatever he wants to do when ever he wants to do it, no matter what anyone says about him being the worlds largest light-weight (not to mention a fat bastard* and bad person**). Eoin's absence this year means all the attention this side of the Atlantic turns to Ben, so hopefully we can spark him into life -for a buzz. He just needs constant reminding that the words "tea" and "party" are in fact mutually exclusive.

Anyway, the renovations are nearly complete but I generally have a very short attention span for things like this and i'm pretty pissed off with it already so we'll just have to see how it goes. I'm taking a break from it for a day or two so there won't be any more updates till later in the week (that is assuming that anybody ever checks this page with enough regularity to actually care -which i doubt).

...you can ride it if you like. Credit where credits due, Eoin Muprhy really hit the nail on the head with this whole fixy fixation. Easy one the eye, definitely the most fun you can have on two wheels and not as difficult or dangerous a ride as you might think -no matter what Dave says.

A present from my Nana who passed away not so long a ago. Someone said of her recently that "she was a real lady" -that she was. Thank you Nana and if you wouldn't mind keeping an eye on me while I'm cycling through town on Friday and Saturday nights on a bike with one brake and no real desire to stop anyway, it would be much appreciated.

I bit the bullet and bought the bike. So far all i have to show for the wad i just dropped at cyclelogical is this brake lever but the rest is on the way. It's in the shop for now -needed a bigger gear. Pick-up on Saturday and i'm headed for the nearest traffic jam, just to watch 'em squirm -the fuckers!
